Build a route from selected jobs
-
Assign technicians and schedule routes
-
Add additional jobs to an existing route
-
Optimize routes for maximum efficiency
💡 Tip: Use this article alongside the interactive walkthrough on this page for a guided, click-by-click experience.
Step 1: Open the Routes Workspace
From your Zuper dashboard:
-
Navigate to Routes
-
Review any existing routes
-
Switch to Planning View
This is where you’ll organize and prepare jobs before building routes.
Step 2: Switch to Map View
Inside Planning:
-
Toggle to Map View
This allows you to visually group jobs based on location, which is key for efficient routing.
Step 3: Filter Your Jobs
Before building a route, narrow down your job list.
Filter by Job Type
-
Open Filters
-
Select Job Type
-
Choose:
-
Air Cooled Maintenance
-
Liquid Cooled Maintenance
-
Filter by Date
-
Add another filter for Scheduled Start Date
-
Set it to your desired range (e.g., current month)
This ensures you're only working with relevant jobs.
Step 4: Select Jobs on the Map
Now that your jobs are filtered:
-
Use the selection tool (rectangle selector)
-
Highlight jobs that are geographically close
-
Confirm your selection
This is where efficiency starts—group nearby jobs together.
Step 5: Create a Route
With jobs selected:
-
Click Create Route
-
Enter a Route Title
-
Example: Adam – April 1 – Maintenance
-
Use a consistent naming convention so routes are easy to identify later.
Step 6: Assign a Technician
-
Select the technician for the route
-
Ensure they are:
-
Qualified for the work
-
In the correct service area
-
Assigning the right technician upfront prevents scheduling issues later.
Step 7: Set Start and End Locations
Define where the technician:
-
Starts their day (office, home, warehouse)
-
Ends their day
This helps Zuper calculate a realistic and efficient route.
Step 8: Set Route Schedule
Fill in scheduling details:
-
Route Date
-
Departure Time
-
Estimated Duration
Then click Create Route
These details ensure the route appears correctly on the dispatch board.
Step 9: Add More Jobs to the Route (Optional)
If additional nearby jobs are available:
-
Go back to Planning view
-
Select additional jobs
-
Choose Add to Route
-
Select your existing route
This allows you to maximize technician efficiency by filling gaps in the route.
Step 10: Optimize the Route
Once all jobs are included:
-
Open the route
-
Click the Optimize (magic wand) tool
Zuper will:
-
Reorder stops
-
Reduce drive time
-
Improve route flow
This step is critical for building the most efficient route possible.
Step 11: Review in Dispatch Board
Finally:
-
Go to Schedule / Dispatch Board
-
Select:
-
Technician
-
Route date
-
-
Expand the route to review all jobs
Confirm everything looks correct before the technician begins their day.
Best Practices
-
Group jobs geographically first, not just by date
-
Always verify technician skills and territory
-
Set accurate start and end locations
-
Run optimization after adding jobs
-
Review routes before dispatching
Common Questions
Why aren’t my jobs showing up?
Check:
-
Filters (job type, date)
-
Job status
-
Assigned territory
Can I edit a route after creating it?
Yes. You can:
-
Add or remove jobs
-
Re-optimize the route
-
Adjust timing and technician
Should I always optimize routes?
Yes. Even if the route looks correct, optimization can further reduce drive time and improve efficiency.
You’re Ready to Route
Once you get comfortable with this workflow, routing becomes fast, repeatable, and highly efficient.
Use this process consistently to keep your technicians organized and your operations running smoothly.
